This 2013! Reflections on 2012 and Hopes for the Future.

On the eve of the New Year about 27 of us gathered to fellowship and then enter the New Year in prayer. Each one was invited to write a short note that might include a passage of scripture and a thought expressing how they had experienced God’s presence in their lives. The following emerged and is the very first blog post on our website. While it is lengthy, it is hoped that anyone reading, may identify with some of the expressions of God’s grace and so be blessed.

New Year's Eve 2012

Fear not, for I have redeemed you; I have summoned you by name; you are mine. When you pass through the waters, I will be with you; and when you pass through the rivers, they will not sweep over you. When you walk through the fire, you will not be burned; the flames will not set you ablaze. For I am the LORD, your God, the Holy One of Israel, your Saviou” (Is 43:1b–3a). Even in the toughest, most difficult times, situations we never envisaged ourselves in, God has been with us, carrying us, and making a way where there seemed to be no way. He’s provided me with wonderful husband and family – so I am truly blessed. He has surrounded us with wonderful, caring friends and our very special KCPC family. So, even while it’s in one’s nature to worry when things go wrong in a really big way, I can cling to this promise and know that my Lord and God is my Saviour. by Alyson

Hear my prayer, O LORD God Almighty; listen to me, O God of Jacob. Look upon our shield, O God; look with favor on your anointed one. Better is one day in your courts than a thousand elsewhere; I would rather be a doorkeeper in the house of my God than dwell in the tents of the wicked. For the LORD God is a sun and shield; the LORD bestows favor and honor; no good thing does he withhold from those whose walk is blameless.” (Ps 84:8–11). I thank God for my family, friends and for my job and everything that he has done for me. by Chifundo

Communion with others. A spirit of togetherness, simplicity and sincerity. A commitment to grow spiritually. A remembrance of our ever-abiding friendship with our Father. A taste of completion and a banishing of our forgetfulness of our union with the Godhead. These we endeavour to live and to reflect, even as we continue to be guided by our Father. by Emmanuel

In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God. He was with God in the beginning. Through him all things were made; without him nothing was made that has been made. In him was life, and that life was the light of men. The light shines in the darkness, but the darkness has not understood it.” (Jn 1:1–5). I give thanks to God for family – that we not only have a physical family, but that we also belong to God’s family. by Graham

It is never easy to place your complete trust or hope in something you cannot see, or have only read or heard about. This is almost impossible for those that pride themselves in their self-sufficiency, independence, and who live by a strict “work for what out want” ethic. This has been a challenge of great dimensions this year and one that I will no doubt continue to struggle with in the New Year.  Surrendering things that are out of my control is a work in progress, but I hope to work hard at it and gain some ground in doing so. by Guilherme

Psalm 121. We would like to thank God for good health and the opportunities we had in 2012 to travel; for example, China, and to meet interesting people and see new places. by Ian and Hettie

I will live with them and walk among them…” (2 Cor. 6:16b). I like this verse because it reminds us that God is with us all the time, even though we may mistakenly feel that he’s not looking out for us; that he’s trying to make things miserable for us; or that he didn’t answer our prayers. But this tells us what he is walking with us through our difficult times. by Jessica

I want to meditate on the scripture Ephesians 4:1-16 where Paul encourages the church about it unity in the body of Christ. by Jonathan

Throughout my first year of university I found that even though I was away from my family, I was able to cope knowing that God was there helping me. I was also able to keep up with the workload of first year science and received wonderful results. I am grateful for God’s help and support. by Leonardo

Thank you, God, for giving me good marks in my report this year and for bringing Shalom to South Africa. by Linga

As an encouragement and way to live our lives on a daily basis, apply the guidance found in 2 Cor. 13:11b: “Aim for perfection, listen to my appeal, be of one mind, live in peace. And the God of love and peace will be with you.” This will surely bring us a wonderful life as we know that if God is with us, he will be for us; and if God is for us, who can be against us? May the peace, love and joy of our Lord be with you always in 2013. by Louise

Jesus called his disciples to him and said, “I have compassion for these people; they have already been with me three days and have nothing to eat. I do not want to send them away hungry, or they may collapse on the way.” (Matt.15:32). Jesus is aware of our problems. He stretches out his hands to those who are with him. Those who have faith and who trust him as the one who is able to provide for a million people in one second. by Loveline

You turned my wailing into dancing; you removed my sackcloth and clothed me with joy, that my heart may sing to you and not be silent. O Lord, my God, I will give you thanks for ever.” (Ps.30:11-12). I thank God for helping me through a long, sad year and then bringing into it the joy of the birth of my first grandchild. God helped me negotiate the seasons of life and I am so grateful. Praise Him. by Margie

I waited patiently for the LORD; he turned to me and heard my cry. He lifted me out of the slimy pit, out of the mud and mire; he set my feet on a rock and gave me a firm place to stand. He put a new song in my mouth, a hymn of praise to our God. Many will see and fear and put their trust in the LORD. Blessed is the man who makes the LORD his trust, who does not look to the proud, to those who turn aside to false gods. Many, O LORD my God, are the wonders you have done. The things you planned for us no one can recount to you; were I to speak and tell of them, they would be too many to declare.” (Psalm 40:1-5). I know that God sees us and our efforts to live by the power of the Holy Spirit and in the light of his Word; yet with stumbling human steps. Yet he is gracious and merciful. In this knowledge, my heart wells up with joy – a new song, telling of his goodness; telling of his wondrous deeds and thoughts toward us. Therefore I will proclaim what I know, though the are more than can be told. by Mike

Forgive us our sins, for we also forgive everyone who sins against us. And lead us not into temptation.” (Lk 11:4). Thank you Lord for forgiving my sins each and every day. by Promise

I want to thank God that I got the chance to be outside the country (Malawi) and to be on an aeroplane for the first time; and for the people who played a part inmaking this happen. I Thank God for my parents for being so patient with me. Mat.7:7  by Shalom, Wallace’s niece

Do not conform any longer to the pattern of this world, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind. Then you will be able to test and approve what God’s will is—his good, pleasing and perfect will.” (Rom.12:2). Turning 50 made me think about how much I’ve changed and what kind of Christian I  want to be when I grow old. No complaints, but action, and an attitude to know and show God’s will in my life. If I have so many things I don’t like in myself, I want to put them on the move and to change by God’s grace and mercy. by Silvia

I thank God for my place in my High School and that I managed to fit in there. Also, for the support given by my teachers, friends and family. For the new friends I met this year. by Thandizo

Does he who implanted the ear not hear?” (Ps. 94:9a). God is the one who created us and a prayer is the most important thing in our lives. God hears our prayers; it is he who ‘implanted’ our ears, therefore he can hear every prayer in every language. He sees all that we go through. There was a time when I lost my job and for three years was without any source of income, yet I had to pay school fees for my four siblings. I ended up selling everything that I had worked for; my car, my house, household goods, just to send them to school and all was used. Still, I could not find a job and had to move to South Africa, leaving my family back home. But God sees and he gave a job in the week I arrived, even though it was not my profession. But I was still able to send something to my parents and pay my siblings fees. Thank you God, it’s my prayer that in 2013 you will give me a better job. Unknown

Delight yourself in the LORD and he will give you the desires of your heart.” (Ps 37:4). My faith in God took me to places I never thought I could go. Unknown

Not that I have achieved the goal yet. But I keep pressing on. (Philip. 3:12).  “Though the fig tree does not bud and there are no grapes on the vines, though the olive crop fails and the fields produce no food, though there are no sheep in the pen and no cattle in the stalls, yet I will rejoice in the LORD, I will be joyful in God my Saviour.” (Hab.3:17-18). I could not wish for a better year. by Wallace

May 2013 be filled with God’s presence for each one!
