From time to time we have inquiries from bereaved families looking for a church as a venue to conduct a funeral or memorial service. Here is some information we hope might assist you.

Funeral Service

A funeral service is normally conducted with the casket present in the church. Depending on the family, the casket may be opened for viewing prior to the commencement of the service. The service may then conclude in at least three ways:

  1. The casket being taken to a cemetary where the body is committed to the earth by means of a brief service.
  2. The casket being taken to the creamtorium where a brief cermony (private or otherwise) is conducted.
  3. The casket being taken to the crematorium and the remains are then collected by the family at a later date.

Memorial Service

A memorial service is different in that the casket is not present and normally the loved one will have been cremated either prior to, during or after the service.
